landscape design

Hanover House now serves as the basecamp to The Woods, a 62.5-acre nature compound. This unique project is all about getting back to the basics with current projects that include homemade Minnich Maple Syrup, with sap collected on the grounds. We’ve cut an extensive trail system, which when done, will allow for almost 5 miles of interlocking hiking trails

To assist this land in thriving, it is necessary to continually remove invasive species of plant life. To do that, I needed to identify those plants, so again I called in a mentor. David Mindel of Plant Wise in Ann Arbor Michigan is an expert, and he walked the property with me and identified which plants are not native to this area. That allowed for me to remove the invasive species, then add back native plant species to the meadowlands and the forest interior. The parcel also contains a large man-made pond. We will keep the pond as a fresh-water source for the fauna, and we will introduce native aquatic plants and fishes.

Unlike Interior Design, which is my background, Landscape Design is working with living elements…and is not without its challenges. I did lose several Hemlock trees that we planted, due to lack of water. Living, and learning. And there have been lessons in every endeavor here!
